How much to spend on groceries:

As of January 2012, $200 per month, or around $50 per week is what the average person eats

each month, based upon groceries and cooking at home. Eating out, the sum goes up quickly.

It could go less, but watch your health very closely if you are spending less.

Three symptoms to watch for if you’re eating less:

  • Do your hands shake for ‘no reason’?

If you don’t get enough food, oxygen doesn’t get to the blood, and then not to your

muscles; the hands are the first to show signs of this deficiency.

  • Are you really tired a lot?
    - food is energy, more so than your muscle strength or sleep pattern

True, carbohydrates and big meals make us sleepy, but overall, food is energy

  • Are you accident prone, do you fall down, slip and stumble often? You’ll notice this
mostly when walking in snow or over any difficult terrain. One year I wasn’t eating well,
and when it snowed, I fell 5 times trying to get to the grocers. After I began to eat more,
I  found I didn’t Fall at all in the snow, even when wearing the same shoes. Then I noticed
that overall, I was stronger. Many who occasionally feel the need to use a ‘walker’ -
might be able to do away with it if they just eat more food.

Be aware that when you’re sick, you might need more food to help heal, though initially you
don’t feel like eating.

If you’re eating more - don’t worry. It wouldn’t be hard to go over this $200 amount. But if it’s
a lot more, then
that’s a whole new post - maybe a new blog - if we get into overweight issues.
