Support Food Supply

March 1, 2012

Support Food Supply

This small 'extra food supply' is very handy if you live on your own, as there is no one else there to run to the store for you at a moments notice.

It is also a food supply for when you get sick or can’t go out due to weather. It’s there to ‘back you up’ and support you. It is very handy for when you suddenly run out of something and don’t have time to run to the store.

It has food that keeps along time unattended on a shelf, and I keep mine in the cabinet over the stove. It’s accessible, but not too accessible. It has:

            rice,

            tomato sauce,

            can of tuna,

            noodles,

            oatmeal,

            big box of raisins,

            bottles of Water,

            a jar of instant coffee,

            Peanut Butter and crackers

            Honey

            cans of this and that.

Stuff I normally eat that are like comfort foods and staples. Things I will feel like eating when I’m sick, things that are real easy to cook.

It began as an ‘emergency food supply’ which I put aside ‘in case of emergency’ like an earthquake or something, but it became more useful than I realized. Now, I call it my ‘Support’ food supply, because it backs me up, it’s there when I need help. Of course, if an earthquake or some other emergency like that does hit, this food will also be there for me.

RENT!!

February 29, 2012

Rent!

Paying rent is one of the top stress factors in life for those
who live alone, and possibly for couples as well. For
those single paycheck households like ours, I think it
matters most. We are the sole breadwinners and there
is often no backup. If you get sick or take an unpaid
vacation, rent can be at risk. You could find yourself
homeless.

It’s never as bad as it sounds. The landlord doesn’t hate
you [not usually anyway]. As long as you pay regularly,
everything should be fine.

Common Problems:

Banking errors
in your checking account is common

That’s the main reason I use money orders, they pay for
themselves in the long run.

Losing track of what day it is
and not realizing rent is due.

This happens easily and is why I keep a calendar by the
fridge and cross days off as they go by. Many use
automatic checking accounts that let landlords
automatically deduct rent from their accounts. If you have
a fat account that’s fine. If you live on a tight budget, I
suggest not using the automatic rent pay. Go with money
orders or checks and watch your calendar.

Landlord not available to take the rent

This has begun to pop up a lot in recent years. I don’t
know what causes it, but here are some assumptions:

- as more landlords take on more and more assistant
landlords, fewer and fewer are authorized to take rent,
inevitably the ones that can, aren’t around, especially
during holiday seasons.

- as more landlords depend on computers and various
upgrading, inevitably computer systems fail or assistants
don’t know how to  use them, and so no one can take
rent till the ‘repair man comes’

- as more landlords rely on automatic payments from
their tenants checking accounts, those who pay by check

or money order begin to be ignored, or fall into a ‘don’t

worry about it’ type of situation. Sometimes, I think
some makers of these
computer rent systems want to
force auto pay onto tennants.

~ not knowing how much to pay

If you’re in a complex for a long time, your rent amount
can change on you. It has become common practice for
landlords to ‘automatically’ raise rent each year - ‘just
because.’ I feel for those who have automatic payment
from their accounts...
